Echoes of Iceland is a minimalist standalone residence located in Taichung, Taiwan, designed by Yuhsien Design Studio. Inspired by the homeowners’ memorable journey to Iceland, the project seamlessly incorporates key materials and impressions from that landscape—volcanic rock, moss, natural wool, and the distinct atmosphere of the dark wooden cabins they once stayed in. These elements are thoughtfully translated into the architectural and interior language, evoking a vivid sense of Iceland’s raw natural beauty the moment one steps inside.

The architecture takes on a narrow, elongated form, where layers of natural materials and refined geometric compositions reflect a profound dialogue between contemporary minimalism and the enduring ethos of Icelandic rural sensibilities. Though situated in the heart of the city, the home exudes a serene, introspective character—creating a quiet yet striking conversation with its urban surroundings.

The interior adopts an open-plan layout that seamlessly links the living room, dining area, and kitchen, allowing for visual continuity and fluid circulation. A long, wide cabinetry unit extends through the space, providing a grounding design element, while a slender stainless steel island intersects the layout, offering both durability and a refined material contrast. This fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern materials adds depth and nuance to the spatial experience.
